As i came to the end of novel Winston was released. I'm assuming that he was because he showed that he had no affection towards Julia. Also that they made him "normal' so he wouldn't try to fight. But when he saw her they could remember all of the bad things being done to them and they wanted to meet again. So are they allowed to remember there feelings from before? In the novels conclusion did Winston love Big Brother because they won the war or am i just missing the reason why he loves Big Brother?

Please reply :goof:

He's been brainwashed.

While some memories remain, Winston is now pure of thought and would quickly dismiss a meeting with Julia using doublethink. He's not capable of independent thought any longer and really does love BB.

O'Brien was trying to "cure" Winston, from all the bad thoughts that were in his mind. His "curing" process was with pain and fear. At first Winston didn't know what to do or say to make O'Brien happy with him and to stop the torture. But later on Winston is finally brainwashed or "cured". He does love Big Brother and thinks nothing else on the old memories.
