There's a hole in my bucket,
dear Liza has been trying to fix.
Bless her, for trying
to plug my unfixable leak.
It spilt freely over pastures new,
babies fell out and one or two
never dripped out alive.
Innocence oozed out early on
but puddled too slowly to learn.
It's a rusty puckered hole
that now releases it's dreggs.
Once hollow, we can throw,
this useless bucket
carefree to cornflowers
and dance on empty,
barefoot, wet on rotting leaves,
relieved of the loss
it once wept.

mmm. another confession of you is what you is and here you are now.

babies fell out and one or two
never dripped out alive

sounds distressing, guilt ridden almost

profound, unclear and powerful all at the same time.

Seemed clear as day in it's writing, but ain't that always the way?

I like your murky waters Jerry.

More self-loathing - a difficult poem about regrets and how we give our failures more attention than they deserve, and our successes hardly ever enough.....

....and I'm also old enough to remember that annoying little song.

Thanks Hill,
think I have finished with the loathing for a bit ;)

I was thinking of the parts of you, you lose along the way and the possible joy when the bucket is empty.
cheers

One hell of a bucket you got there Jer, oozing innocence and leaking babies, phew! Thankfully no one is kicking it....

But there's a spontaneity to this that to me transcends the feeling of loss, a sense that no matter how much or what leaks out of the bucket, more and more is coming along.
