View Full Version : A Cause for Hope?
In,1984, Orwell includes a few hints that the party isn't perfect. When winston and Julia talk for the first time in the meadow, Julia says that she's been with many men within the party. She gives evidence that there is quite a bit of corruption within the ranks of the party. She even says that some of the Inner-Party members have been interested in her and that they are just a corrupt as anyone. This means that eventually the party may collapse. If just one Inner-Party member wants more power or compromises on the rules for his own gain, it may give an opening for the rest of the people to free themselves, even if it means total anarchy. This, though, might take awhile and for the tome being the Party still has control. The process of deterioration in the party may take one year or a thousand, but no system of government in history has lasted forever. If the people like winston are patient and keep their heads down, the time may come when Big Brother is no longer a god. Please comment

No, you're mistaking what being an Inner Party actually is. They are quite welcome to pick the cream of the crop of Outer Party workers and proles for sexual deviancy and have no trouble with self-indulgence.
Being an Inner Party member is a licence to do what the hell you like. As long as the Party doctrine remains unblemished, the collective working of the Inner Party isn't affected by personal vices. There are no consequences - no media, no gossip, nothing.

Well if you don't mind me asking, aren't the Inner Party members suppose to be almost like role modles? If the Party is trying to remove the pleasure and instinct out of sex then why would they allow the Inner Party members to do this with out consiquience? I'm sorry, but i degree then. From my perspective the "Party doctrine" can not remain "unblemished" if it's Inner Party members are disobeying it's teachings, and having no reason not to keep doing so. I think this would be the Party's downfall, by giving that much leeway to a group or social class with the most power is idiotic.

No, not at all.
They are what they are, the Outer Party members are more or less their slaves, and the proles their cattle and beasts of burden.

Because the Inner Party run the place. They're not teachers or advisers, they own everything that exists in Oceania. They don't have or need rules.

See above, nothing to disobey. Rules are for Outer Party members.

They aren't giving, they're taking. It's almost like Aleister Crowley's [?] Satanic claim - Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law. That's a reason they will never relinquish power; life's far too good to allow internecine rivalry among the Inner Party.
