We linger in life
existing within a giant
square of happiness.
So thoughtful of Him
to surround us all with
fat, thick elastic

When a gust of incomprehensibility
or a malodorous action
knocks us back,
our fall is cushioned;
we can bounce off the bands
and remain upright
remain tall -
that our heads live in the clouds;
so we may never look down
and comprehend the fallen
the battered, the tortured
strewn at our feet;

You put us where we stand, bouncing back, never really comprehending (except maybe in prayer, because after a Sunday morning spent by the fearing at the pews, the victims are all so much ****ing better off) we carry on regardless.

I wonder, might there be some reference you could use that would imply "the boxing ring of life" without stating it blatantly? After all the preceding, effective imagery, that felt like an instance of telling rather than showing.
