Criticisms accepted and welcomed.

To hit the ground running
is to assume that
the asphalt and concrete
are on whirring motorized
tracks like treadmills

circling us and never relieving

with all ways moving and intersecting

and we are all standing
silently,
vigilantly

like proud guard dogs
amazed at how fast we can run.

I don't really get the connection between the proud guard dogs and hitting the ground running...

It reads to me like there's a verse or two missing, which is a shame because its an interesting idea for a poem.

I like how you examine the term 'hit the ground running'. It inspires me to slow down.

I've never liked the term myself. I can't stand being referred to as a multi-tasker by virtue of being a woman either!

I can see how it could be confusing.

I was examining the phrase 'to hit the ground running'

It made me think of how native americans would say things like flying crow, or watching hawk, or whatever.

Running Ground. As a thing.

If you phrase it that way, the ground is what is running. So I was making the image that we are all standing still and the earth is running around us in small tracks.

Neilgee- We are standing in one place, and the dogs are just a metaphor for us humans. I might rewrite that part, which is why I appreciate your comment. I need feedback.

Delta- I know what you mean. Heck, I assumed that all women were multi-taskers. But I also assumed that they were smarter than us guys.
