Innocently white
Clayton stared expectantly at the little plastic bag, lusting to put it safely within the confines of his jacket. He was feeling twitchy now; it had been a while since his last high. God, did he need that **** right now. The afternoon had been all messed up in more than one way. Morelock had almost literally lashed him for screwing up the Vanessa affair, and cute Jess had turned him down audibly and clear for the whole office to hear. Yep, the day had been a ****up through and through, and if there was any time in his life he needed some, it was now.
His and Charlie’s dealings were no longer rapid swaps in abandoned offices, but had developed into comfy and calm transactions where small talk had become a sort of requisite, and usually he was fine with all of that, but not today. It had been hours and he needed the stuff noooow!
As his colleague yapped on about as much needless things he could possibly cram into the minute or so they spent trading wares for money these days, Clayton’s mind was already way ahead of his body, picturing himself finally sucking up a sweet line of snow from the table in his office.
Tired of Charlie’s attempt at reeling off the world’s reservoir of small talk he produced the wrinkled 100 dollar bill he had nervously been tampering with in his pocket during the last minutes and flashed it provokingly near the face of his dealer. This silenced him, and finally Clayton received his long overdue blow. Without another word, he bolted out of the room and set the course for his perfectly private office, aching to finally quench his trembling need.
Not Colombian Anymore
Finally Friday. The weekend was due and two days of typical June summer weather were forecast. On top of that, Clayton had big plans for the night. In one hour he would meet up with the rest of the guys down at the Vertigo for warm-up drinks and a cigar before they headed off into the wild nightlife jungles of L.A. The stuff he had purchased in the beginning of the week was unfortunately out, but he had managed to get hold of some cheap ****, which would simply have to do. Not as sweet and pure as the quality office coke, but it would have to do for now. He needed to take his mind off things. The day had not exactly been superb: he had disappointed Mr. Morelock with the lousy presentation, but that was just because the coke had kept him up far past midnight. And Jessica had had a taste of his sour temper too. That was a pity, really, since they had this thing going, always flirting and smiling at each other. But he had just ignored her the whole day. It was his colleague’s fault, really, not being able to deliver the drugs as promised. If he would have had one single sniff before work, he would not have screwed up so royally with neither Morelock nor Jessica.
Despite all that, he smiled to himself as he looked down at the two neatly paralleled lines. “Let’s hit it,” he said out loud, and proceeded to give each of his nostrils a dose of heaven’s own divine medicine.
Snow in the Middle of Summer
Clayton was in a great mood. Everything was going great. He had just passed Jessica in the corridor and he could swear there was something there. The way she smiled. The way she almost winked at him with those beautiful eyes. Yep, one of these days he was going to ask her out. Maybe after he had pulled off the Vanessa affair and raked in that fat bonus he had coming from Morelock. Things were just going great at the moment.
Perhaps he would try some more cocaine that night to celebrate. He could probably catch Charlie on his way home… the offices should all be empty by then for a speedy transaction in the shadows.
Admittedly, the first time he had tried it, he had been skeptical to the whole concept of doing drugs, but hell, it was great, and as a matter of fact, it was not like he needed another high. It was just that he was about to reel in a major deal for his company and on top of that, he was flirting with the cutest girl in the office. There should be a law against not celebrating that!
He had promised himself to only try it that one time, but man, had things gone great after that? He had practically swelled with confidence the entire week.
Trust Me!
“Would you chill out, man?” Charlie said and grinned from the other side of the table. “I’m telling you, man… you’ll be fine if you just try it once.”
Clayton looked skeptically at his colleague. He had a strict policy against drugs, one which he had maintained all his life, so naturally it was a little irritating to learn that one of his closer friends did coke. None of his other friends had ever done any drugs… or at least as far as he was concerned. Now that it turned out Charlie did, and even had some on him, it felt so oddly real all of a sudden. Like he had landed right in the middle of it. He refused to admit it even to himself, but it did feel a little exciting.
“Just… trust me, alright? I’ve done it a thousand times. I know how it works.”
Clayton did have one of the sharpest minds at the office. He was a very rational person and liked to believe he could put a leash on himself in any given situation. It’s not like he would ever succumb to an addiction.
