Here's lookin' at you, Twenty-Two
Twenty-One loved harsh and shallow
Another lustful year spurs by
Another step toward hungry gallows

To think I got my sleeping done
on the snowy side of Twenty-One
The kind of thought I hate to think;
with two months left I wake from sleep

Twenty-Two, I'm waking up
I'll meet you in a couple months
I'm much more sure, less shaky now
Not sure about what
nor sure about how

As sure as these November leaves
Fall orange and red to earth's reprieve
Even me, I'm like a leaf
and in my way
must peel from tree

What a refreshing way to approach the next age JoH. I especially like your comparison to a leaf peeling from a tree, as if you have a slightly more clearer view of your journey than you did at twenty one.

very nicely composed.

A genuine and dark description of our life journey.... I liked the line.."twenty-One loved harsh and shallow
Another lustful year spurs by
Another step toward hungry gallows"...
As we grow in age,b'days don't really seem so wonderful as they were in our infancy and childhood...

Kindly explain the lines..
"To think I got my sleeping done
on the snowy side of Twenty-One
The kind of thought I hate to think;
with two months left I wake from sleep"

keep posting your poems..

I also picked 'Another step towards hungry gallows' as a significant line - growing older and suddenly more conscious of what is already gone (lost) and what still lies ahead.

I'm guessing there are still perhaps two months left before this pivotal year in your life is over. This reads to me like a reality check.
