Big Brother has all control over the public opinion, life style, and who you can or cannot love. Winston and Julias secret affair that went on for so long, was eventually stopped by big brothers authority figures.

If one couple could pull this off, why didnt others? Could an uprising really turn the country into a republic? Could big brother be over run?

W&J didn't pull anything off - they failed completely.

They were allowed to continue for some time, under the watch of the Thought Police. They were never in a position to damage the Party at all.

BB cannot be overthrown, there is no opposition, and never will be.
