If the people of oceania are so concerned about changing history then why is there a anitique shop? Even if it is in the prole section. You wold think that B.B would want to keep it out of the prole section in the first place just so that way they dont recover memories of the old days. Please respond with your responses. :sosp:

Well it is a perfect place for the Party to detect "people interested in weird things" (very possibly thought-criminals) in my opinion.
A "normal" (meaning simple and not-caring about anything except lottery and surely not caring about the history) prole would propably never went to the antique shop, right?

I agree, also having a thought police own the store is that much better.
Anyone that shows any suspision can immediately be reported and vaporized. These kind of establishments are goldmines for B.B.
This makes the lives of the tought police that much easier.

Well, Charrington is a member of the Thought Police, so it follows that it is indeed owned and operated by The Party.
How many couples have been sprung by the telescreen behind the picture?
Created by the party to capture thought criminals, and then using doublethink they realize there is no such thing as these old objects but the Party simply allows them to exist at certain times to catch thought criminals :)
