lost poem

Hi, This poem was glued to the front of one of my grandfathers books.
I read the poem in 1975, but the book was most likely from the 1060's or before.

Here is all I know:

Kill a rumor on the spot,
Let it die and be forgot.


Does anyone know the rest? or the Author?
