I want to love an obese midget,
with alopecia and boils,
flatulence and halitosis,
with a beauty deep within.
Small, but surprisingly heavy
I would lift you in my arms
on my daily return from work,
your giggles would be all I need.
I would ruffle your hair,
kiss your bald spots
and lovingly bathe your boils.
I would keep in my head
an encyclopedia of fart jokes
to ease the every occasion
and I would tenderly slip
an extra strong mint
between your loving lips
before we kissed, true love.
Our love would be inside out.
How we would laugh
at perfect tits
and six packs.
We would know,
how he fell in love with her
and why she married him.
But they would have
no clue.
That would, for sure,
be true.

It's difficult to know what to say about this.

As a poem it reminds me of that 'Freaks' movie that everybody thought was in bad taste when first released (and disowned by the studio), but was later acclaimed as a masterpiece because it was actually intended to reveal the characters portrayed in a sympathetic light.

But I'm assuming there's probably more humour here than sincerity - in which case some will love it and some will step aside swiftly.

the humour was inescapable, but the thought was and is sincere.

You invite us to consider our own imperfections, laugh at them, realise they are unique and an invaluable attribute to our own lovability.

There can, after all, be no truer love than one that has no basis in image.

Love songs, love poetry, all concentrate on how bloody gorgeous the subject is. Eyes, hair, body. We grab those we want to take to bed, as a slave to genetics, then find things to love. This is an (all be it idealistic) thought of what true love may be like, expressed in my unsubtle way.

Don't you mean more a slave to the media, than genetics. Is not mankind less natural and more contrived in the 21st century?
