Chicken caught sight
of its reflection in a pond.
Had never seen such a beautiful duck!
Duck came along and shoved it aside.
“That’s a cow, you idiot!
Holstein, if I’m not mistaken.”

I was in ugly duckling territory for the first stanza. Other than a particularly bi tchy duck, you lost me on the second. Oneupmanship, self delusion, a fine breed of cow. Or maybe you are just taking the piss. I don't know and that for me is the beauty of a Prince posting :D

I think the bizarre humour is what saves this from complete failure - but I was tempted to read the first verse as a reply to the Q 'Why did the chicken cross the road?'

Ouch! Your candour here is as much appreciated as are your more appreciative remarks elsewhere. Thanks.

Not sure about the poetry but I enjoyed the joke. :D
Have this one on me...
Gods and green leaches
Who lie upon beaches
Look so untidy when left in the sun
But science it teaches
That gods and green leaches
Shouldn’t be stepped on by any for fun.

Thanks for that il miglior fabbro. I wasn't thinking of what I posted as "poetry," more like vers d'occasion - although the only occasion for it was my restless urge to compose something.
