I have nothing to say
that isn't two millenia old.
But God help me
and he will,
I am gonna keep
right on saying it,
as it is his will and mine
that you hear these words,
redressed, re-presented,
for my mission is not poetic
and I care not what you write,
just that you may read,
his word through me.

Didn't Jim Jones say that? What unbridled narcissistic conceit. Bravo again!

Impressed with this poem.

Your protagonist states "his" position quite succinctly. And juxtaposed with "For those who believe,no explanation is necessary. For those who do not, none will suffice." adds a wryness, a dichotomy if you will, that fits wonderfully.

Well done.

This reminds me of Emily Dickinson's 'Letter to the World'. Not because of style or length or metre, but because both her poem and yours declare up front that they have something earth shattering to say, but don't actually say it. They seem to be merely declarations of intent. :D

I see that you were really inspired when you wrote this, perhaps by something you read here recently? These two pretend dumb-ss lines are brilliant:

I have nothing to say
that isn't two millenia old.

It was meant as a tongue-in-cheek compliment - 'rascal' perhaps might have been more apt.

You're on fire, guv, and it seems to me that this is one of the sparks that shot off from the flame.

Still, I think you ought maybe to lay off the Apocalyptic ones on this Forum. Take the chance of scaring the crumbs right off your fish-fingers by entertaining the thought But what if they're right?

But what if they're right?
I admit I enjoy a bit of fantasy and have a decent imagination. But it aint that bloody good.

Hill. Parody? Moi?
I preferred scoundrel to rascal :D

Hawk. Spot on.

Delta, who is this Mr Jones?

Tailor. Thanks. I see what you did there :)

Thanks Mary. Good to see some smilies in your post.

I should probably have stuck with the fairies, thanks all.

The Reverend Jim Jones - you're old enough to remember!

Poetry loses its value when you write a poem to be hurtful.

Poetry loses its value when you write a poem to be hateful.

1) You are making an unwarranted assumption about the author's motivation for writing this poem.

2) "Hateful" to you is not necessarily hateful to others.

So we should be unrelentingly hostile to anyone who writes poems yet does not comment on others' poetry? Or should we be unrelentingly hostile to someone who writes something we don't agree with?

Poetry loses its value when you write a poem to be hurtful.

Oh Nik, poetry is a feeling from the heart... If that is what the poet is feeling at the time, then that is what he or she will write. It is only natural. Every feeling is expressed in one's work. Poets aren't out to hurt anyone in particular. :smile5:

Maybe Nik, you should wonder more about the motivation of the original poster rather than the comments. It is unrelenting religious rhetoric and if that is your bag too it is well catered for in other areas here. In my opinion alone it lends nothing to this site and in time everybody on here interested in this site, posts comments on other works, despite your protestations otherwise. You will not get another word from me on this subject other than to say you and baby know where the religious section is so please go make friends there.
