After another dismal round of European qualifiers
I think its time for a change
There are too may countries now
So I propose something radical
Norway and Sweden should merge
To become Swedway or Norden
Spain and Portugal could become
Sportugal, Porpain or Spugal
Denmark and Finland would be Finmark
Belgium and Holland would become Belland
Germany and Austria would either be
Gerstria or the fourth reich
The Balkan states could reform as Yugoslavia
Greece and Turkey could be Treece or Gurkey
The USSR could regroup, for sporting reasons only of course
And the home nations could combine to become England

Good point I like the sound of Holgium although it sounds a bit like one of those made up scientific names like Bifidus Digestivum

I'm not sure that this qualifies as poetry - but anyway..... combine to become England? I trust you are indeed jesting. Why not merge as Celtia or Gaelia (since the Anglo Saxons were very much latecomers to the party)!!!!!!!

Yea, England could then be absorbed into the USA since a lot of their ancestral countrymen were already here AND no other country in the world can throw a bigger Superbowl party.
