I'm curious if there are any well-cited sources that deal with the canonization of various religious texts and scriptures over time. Who and what determines what makes the final cut in various editions of bibles?
The Book of Enoch, which deals in part with fallen angles, for instance, is not included in the canon. Wikipedia suggests one reason may be that it is a blasphemy to consider that angels would revolt their God, thus nullifying the text.
I'm genuinely curious about the thought and the history that went into these processes. It seems there could be various pieces of scripture that were left out of the canon for what seem like fairly questionable and maybe even trivial reasons. Scripture that could lead to a greater understanding, perhaps. I feel like there must be some good sources that deal with this topic.
