Intermezzo

Inspired by a poem by Lamar Cole
.

Moon busied above, kissed the stars to bed

As cool breeze sighed, shivered upon my spine

My love's moon-eyes flashed of aquamarine

I breathed deep my love in the silver light
.

Toes to toes caressed by impish ebb tides

Her lips tasted as sweet, as sweet a rose

The sea becalmed as betide we embraced

Old Moon blushed with knowing averted gaze
.

What lovely imagery this conjures up in my mind! And the idea of the moon blushing with averted gaze is delightful. :-)

Thank you for your kind comments.

LOL. I just noticed I left "Toes to toes"; edited to "Toe to toe" in my final version on my web page. (Sigh. It's too late to edit above it seems).

It's a really charming, elegant little piece. It kinda reminds me of the evocative simplicity of Robert Burns... maybe it was the "as sweet as a rose" line.

Thank you MorpheusSandman for your kind comment. An influence indeed, albeit ever so humbly. To stand on the shoulders of great poets ~ inspired and aspiring is a modern poet's lot.

From wikipedia: some interesting insights on the song/poem "A Red Red Rose" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Red,_Red_Rose) and a quote I found interesting:
When asked for the source of his greatest creative inspiration, American singer songwriter Bob Dylan selected Burns' 1794 song A Red, Red Rose, as the lyrics that have had the biggest effect on his life.

The poem:

A Red Red Rose - a poem by Robert Burns

O my Luve's like a red, red rose
That's newly sprung in June;
O my Luve's like the melodie
That's sweetly played in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a' the seas gang dry:

Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi' the sun;
I will luve thee still, my dear,
While the sands o' life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only Luve,
And fare thee weel awhile!
And I will come again, my Luve,
Tho' it ware ten thousand mile.

It really is delicate and so pleasingly graceful in form and tone! Thanks for sharing this one (and the noble lineage which it continues!)

Ah young love. This is a sweet reminder of the other joys of springtime. I also love the last line.

I had hoped for a lightness and playfulness in this poem.

This is a beautiful image. Absolute success in the sensationalist purpose. I can totally remember the goosebumps I felt when I kissed my girlfriend, very literally under the almost exact scenario described here.

It's a beautiful image. I'm not sure if there's more to interpret than a sexy, romantic moment, but if there is, the sensation of your image and the excellent portrayal is enough for me.

Thank you IceM.

Just as you noted, young love on the California shores. Something personal for me as well. I chose "Intermezzo" as the title because young love can be such a short magical moment between two major themes in life, generally: Growing up, learning values, education, and so on - anchored by parents; and then the time away on one's own, starting a family, career, further education, et al.

I carefully chose the word "betide" because of its closeness to the word 'tide' of course, and I liked the choice of coupling it with "becalmed" ~ as if even time stood still; and in some references "betide" is denoted as something happening especially as if by fate.
