My dreams are full of dead people,
friends and family, recent and long gone.
I meet them with such surprise,
all so very alive and doing well.
They have no idea they are no more.
At times, I seem to understand
that their death never happened
and I meet them with utter joy.
Other times, I am with them
before they have departed
and I have the job of a madman
warning them of their fate
as though it could be avoided.
Even people, I barely knew
come back night after night
walking and talking,
more alive than their recreator.
It seems that anybody
who shared my life
and later slipped away
had no intention at all
of ever leaving.

The title is a clever play on the undead. I have dreams like these. I also have visitations. If this is real you then you're almost as haunted as I am.

Oh its real. I am naively surprised at the comments of me keeping them alive, I figured in my irresponsible way it was none of my doing.

I spend no time of my waking day thinking of some of these people yet there they are chatting away to me when I sleep. Is just a trick of the mind and as you have probably gathered I am hardly religious, but I have never felt that I brought them back. So before I start talking utter bollocks that was the inspiration. I figured if I go through this then others do.

I have a condition known as sleep paralysis. That's when you are asleep with your eyes open and can 'hear' chatter and 'see' people. A friend blessed my room but to no avail so I got over the fear. My own hand regularly tries to strangle me - I mean I watch in horror as I choke myself and then slowly, my room starts to take shape again.....fascinating experience once you get over the fear.

You are not alone, Jer. I often have similarly bizarre dreams of some parallel life where the dead people from my past continue to exist as if nothing happened - and you pin-pointed the exact same thought I had. How do I tell them? What a weird thing our subconscious is.
