I'm just curious to see what percentage of people here are studying literature at the college level or beyond.

Sorry: I don't know why I put that third choice in the past tense.

I checked the last three: I majored in English, I have a graduate degree in it, and I'm a professional academic. And the amazing thing? I still read as an outright pastime too -- something I never thought would be possible during my graduate school days.

Yeah, I completely understand your sentiment. I just started grad school, and I'm drowning in the sheer volume of reading. In just the first month, I think I've already read an undergrad's whole semester's worth of books. And I'm having to print a bajillion articles online. I run out of ink every friggin' two weeks!

What a learning curve! :D

Purely a hobby for me, but one I quite enjoy.

I enjoyed studying literature in high school and thought about it as a major. Reading is still a big hobby. I have two humanities electives to fill in my matrix senior year, so I might take some English classes again.

I took some university level English lit, but I didn't major or minor in it.

Coming to the end of a degree in Literature and Media. There's a bit of politics and history thrown in, but overall mostly literature. I ticked graduate because I am nearly there and it has a nice ring to it.

Reading is a hobby for me now but many, many moons ago I graduated with English Literature as my main subject. Old habits die hard, however, and I still rarely read anything without an analysis, albeit a subconscious one.

Amen to that - I'm a Ph.D student.

Actually, the amount of time I have for reading has diminished recently - spend so much time doing mindless admin, it's untrue...

You don't have an option for those who hope and plan to formally study it, but for whom it is only a life-consuming hobby at present. ;)
