They call for liberation
through fires spewing smoke,
as bullets pass their scalps
they scream and cry and hope
for their homemade masks to shelter
their lungs from being choked,
but it's when they breathe the fires
they can finally form a home.

I'm not sure I understand the final line of this - nor why they need to be 'homemade masks' - perhaps the visuals are more distracting than helpful. Your words generally do a good enough job of putting each dot in place for the reader to join.

Hi revolt I think you've sort of painted yourself into a corner with the "choked" which kind of begs a rhym but doesn't get one. The "home" last word sort of falls a bit flat. I keep wanting to rhyme with choked thoug and came up with this as a last line:

That they're finally revoked." Which isn't really what you are saying! :D Keep manning the barricades and keep an eye out for the cat. ;)

lol well actually the rhyming wasn't intentional, just sort of happened.

As for the homemade masks, DIY culture is popular amongst anarchists, the idea is to work through and against the system, without having to work with it too much, so a lot of people will take shirts or decant fabrics and make masks that are more effective against tear gas and so on then a bandana, without having to dig too much into the pockets.

The last line: Anarchists in riot/protest/*insert thing I forgot here* will often cover their faces in order to protect them against the gas, the smoke and being jailed under terrorist classification which anarchists are known to be categorized as, which is ironic but, hey. With that being said, when they "breathe the fire" it's representing being free to take off those masks without worry of harm or being arrested, and of course, to create community run "governments" AKA: forming a home.
