I am not very well-read when it comes to Japanese authors, but i like some of the short stories by Tanizaki. Probably because most of those were influenced by european authors, and i can read them without feeling i am in front of something alien to me.

What is your view of this author? Do you have a favourite work by him?
Mine probably is "The thief" :)

Anyone else who read him? I would recommend some of his books ;)

I've read The Key and Diary of a Mad Old Man. They were both good, but very similar so I'd recommend reading only one of them (probably The Key). I've heard that The Makioka Sisters is very good, but haven't got round to reading it yet.
