Today is Canadian Thanksgiving; next month comes American Thanksgiving. Regardless of the time of year, I can improve my mood by counting my blessings. I invite others to do the same, at least during the weeks between the two holidays.
So, what are you thankful for? It can be anything, small or large, profound or funny.
I'll start off.
I'm thankful for John Milton. I find Milton's poetry comforting. I was about to wallow in self-pity yesterday (in public!) but was saved by reading Milton. It has to do with the slightly impersonal flavor and the fact that while the poetry can be riveting, it also requires thought.

THANKSGIVING!!! Modern mabon, I frickin' love thanksgiving. I get to eat an hour from now, I've been starving myself all day.
Anyway, I'm thankful for:
-School, even though math kicks my ***
-David, Steve, Rosie, Sean, Dylan, Alex, Lydia, Tommy and Shaun
-My library card, viva reading books for free!
-Delicious food (as you can see, I'm very hungry)
-Litnet, my connection to the world outside of Alberta

Ditto those. What would I do without the library? Either go broke or not read as much.
And Litnet adds so much to my knowledge and connection too.
I'm thankful for the talented singers I got to accompany tonight.

Today is Canadian Thanksgiving. Two weeks from now comes American Thanksgiving.
Actually it's more than two weeks. Amewrican Thanksgiving is the last Thursday in November. It's about six weeks later.
I'm am thankful for this little one.

For those who don't know, that's my Matthew and meaning of his name is "gift of the Lord." And he certainly is. :)

:mad2: Thanks for the correction. I asked my mom when American Thanksgiving was and she said something about the 25th, and I automatically thought October like the Canuck one.
Matthew is certainly a great reason for you and your wife to be thankful this year, Virgil!
I'm thankful for the laughter that everyone in my family, even those going through tremendous pain, shared tonight.

I should get a prize for being mixed up about Thanksgiving! Today, or so I'm told, is Canadian Thanksgiving. I guess I was confused by the fact that my own family, and several others, celebrated yesterday.
Anyways, I'm Thankful for sound. Saturday I lay in a hammock and listened to all the sounds. Fortunately, I live on a farm, so the sounds were mostly soothing and sometimes amusing. But I was just amazed at all the sounds that we tune out in just 10 minutes.
I'm thankful for hammocks, which really must be the most comfortable of devices for rest and relaxation.

It's okay, I think that most people celebrate on Sunday because people who are driving to celebrate with their families would probably leave on Monday for the trip back.

My son's health. :) Lovely to have him back to his cheeky, chatty, whistly (If that's a word) kind of self again. :)

This is a really nice idea for a topic! It reminds me that I'm not entirely motivated by grouchiness...
Well, I'm thankful for...
-the wonderful, and surprisingly large, group of friends that have arrived at this point in life with me.
-my equally wonderful and ever-understanding parents.
-my godson Daniel, from whom I get all the pleasures of parenting without any of the actual responsibilities.
-the fact that I live in a world where beauty, art, music and creativity are all recognised as powerful forces, and that I am free to explore them.
-and, finally, as I look out the window, I'm thankful for SNOW!!!!
Thanksgiving isn't really a British thing, but to all the Canadians and Americans on here, have a good one!
