What character do you think has been the best lover in a novel? I want to learn a good love book and learn about the character. I want to become a better boyfriend!

I think you can't go wrong with Darcy from Pride and Prejudice ;). He changes for his great love of all things!
Or actually any of the great Austen lovers. Apart from maybe Knightley as he might be too old to be compared to your age (potentially ;))...
Actually Henry Tilney is very CHARMING!

At least, Austen's books will educate you in what women like.

The Kama Sutra is a good love book.

Undoubtedly the book you should read is

Giacomo Casanova - L'Histoire De Ma Vie

Haha, silas thorne! Certainly great, we have one at home, with photos :D.

And, Alexander, if one wants to also get something out of his love-making (i.e. a career), then Casanova is certianly the example.

I never fail to be moved by the love scenes between Kitty and Levin in Anna Karenina. The scene when they tentaively spell out their feelings with letter cards is so tender.

The question is: was Casanova a true romantic lover or just a PLAYER!?

For devotion:

Penelope from The Odysseycan't be beat, waiting twenty years for her husband to return and thwarting the suitors' attempt to force her hand by undoing her knitting and staving off her decision.

For best depiction:

I personally think there's no one better than the HILARIOUS Beatrice and Benedict in Much Ado About Nothing...Romeo and Juliet are well adn good, but so unrealistic and somewhat flat, I'd actually venture a guess and say that perhaps Claudio and Hero in Much Ado About Nothing are parodies of R&J and that sort of over-dramatic love, whereas Beatrice and Benedict, both witty, intelligent, and both ready to stand up and bicker like a REAL couple...

THAT'S more like what real love is, a far better depiction of the reality of love, and surprisingly enough, while I never have been in and never really have sought out love--

I think I'd prefer having a relationship akin to B&B rather than R&J.

I'll pick my all-time favorite, Lord Henry ( the picture of dorian gray), although i dont think he was actually a lover, was he?

Rhett Butler from Gone with the Wind.

No one else comes close to him as far as fiction crushes go, haha.

Will Ladislaw would be a strong contender though.

Yeah, Darcy would be a good choice. Or Mellors from Lady Chatterley's Lover ;)

I quite fancied myself as Tom Jones, (not the singer) but am probably more like Gabriel Oak.

Well, I think there are a lot, however, I could say: Oliver Mellors and Connie Chatterley from the novel Lady Chatterley's lover by D. H. Lawrence.

I like the question. :D

How about Rupert Birkin in D.H. Lawrence's Women in Love. :wink5:

I have been captivated by Allie Hamilton and Noah Calhoun of the Nicholas masterpiece, 'The Notebook'. I really cried a lot reading the piece and watching the film- I couldn't sleep for few nights realizing later it was just a fiction story. The love of the two is not barely romantic love but it is definitely inexplicable!

Then you're the man for me, Mick - steadfast and true - and oh, that proposal, it never fails to bring a tear to the eye. (That Jones boy has worn well, though, hasn't he?)

She says: 'Hey, do you want to go out for lunch, just the two of us?'

He says: 'Hang on, I'm reading my book on how to become a better lover.'

She says: 'OK. Bye.'

That's not necessarily true. Just hide the book when your lady/gentleman friend comes around. You never know, you may learn something.

you should read "The Tale of Tinúviel" — first version of the tale of Beren and Lúthien By: J.R.R Tolkien. He later transformed the tale of Beren and Lúthien into an epic poem which he called The Lay of Leithian, it was published The Lays of Beleriand.

I think they are the best lovers in a novel..

This always makes me think of the hilarious song, by the same name, in Man of La Mancha.
