The blushing bride is now in tears,
her groom confirms her darkest fears,
she hides her face behind her hands,
for as the Tom Jones tribute band
strikes up a grinding, throbbing beat,
the guests all clap and stamp their feet,
and while she sits upon a chair,
her husband dances, stripping bare;
save the hat, which he leaves on,
together with his sparkling thong.

Well this little poem sort of gave me impressionof the film 'The full Monty'.
I had a chukle well readed last two lines.

Seems to have the knack of reminding us of other scenes: in my case, the movie & the short story from which it was made, "Brokeback Mountain," when the wife of one of the two male lovers first catches sight of them kissing passionately but let that not take away from my admiration for the deft humour of this poem.

I can guess what song the band was playing - and I love the ironic title.

Very amusing.

What a sinking feeling to witness that on your wedding day! great dance rhythm (could hear the crowd cheering him on)

L4 lacks the same flow as the rest of the poem.

Thanks zoolane, Glad it gave you a giggle and you are quite right to spot the full monty referfence.

Well, Prince, I can't claim that Brokeback Mountain was in my mind when I wrote this as I have neither read the book nor seen the film but I am, nevertheless, happy to have provided some humour for you to enjoy.

Yes, hill, the wedding ritual of the first dance does give it a nice double hit, although on this occasion the bride's tears were of laughter.

Hi Delta, you are right in that the two equal stresses of Tom Jones side by side impede the flow a bit, but I couldn't really see a way round it. The switch in metre, mid line, although undesireable, is not without precident though.

As for the poor girl being subjected to the embarassing spectacle on her wedding night, I may well yet put it on youtube (with the couple's permission) as I have the evidence on tape. :D

Thank you all for reading and commenting. H

Wonderful! :)

I like the caesura in the second to last line.
I'm glad the final lines led to 'thong', not 'dong'. ;)

Great fun Hawk. I have a feeling over time now that you have something of a wedding fixation ;)

Thank you, Silas. Glad you enjoyed it and I think we all were!

Thanks to you too, Jerry. Attending as many weddings as I do provides ample material for the muse to work with. :D
