I am interested in reading a biography on St. Francis of Assisi. Can anyone recommend a good biography? I am looking for a good read, not necessarily an academic course on his life, if you catch my gist?

I've never read any so i can't recommend, but Wikpedia's entry includes a list of biographies: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francis_of_Assisi.

You can take that list and go to Amazon and read the reviews. Hope that helps.

Actually I just went to Amazon and did a search there for you. They have a list: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=biography+st+francis+of+assisi&x=16&y=17. You can go down the list and see if any grab you.

Thanks Virgil. I did do that and thought I'd drop by here, just in case someone recommends another one that is not on Amazon. Appreciate the leg work.

After "cross-referencing" Wiki and amazon, this one seems the best:

Reluctant Saint: The Life of Francis of Assisi (2002), a book by Donald Spoto

Has anyone read this or can they recommend another biography?

A very interesting biography about a saint would be Mary MacKillop, she will be declared Australia's first saint, on October 17th this year. I know there are quite a few writings about Mary.
