I am drinking a strong lager right now as that is what I usually drink by way of beer. However, much depends on whether you are from the UK or elsewhere, because the non lagers are often different according to country.
In London a non lager beer that would be difficult to beat is Fullers ESB which stands for Extra Strong Beer.
An Australian barman once told me that when he came to England he had never drunk any beer except lager but one morning he tried ESB at a central London pub and liked it so much that he thought he would have another and, 4 pints later, he managed to get to an underground station to go home and woke up at midnight still going round on the circle line.
ESB is deceptively easy to drink.
