Arduous dust wafts
through the sizzling
stream of air
settles on the
sandy asphalt
Praise for God is
sung through speakers
drifts in ripples
air vibrates with
heat and sound
Then a donkey
softly brays, its
scream of sorrow
muffled by a
gush of fire
Slowly, step by step
we mount the
barren rock
ocher-red aglow
under the sun
Lost in desolation
