The sun has no heat.
A blood orange in the sky.
I am surfing today,
my girl watches from the littered shore.
The nuclear plant
choking like the earth
glows along the coastline.
I push my board through coffee sea,
my girl is dying in half lifes,
as I catch a wave and go.
I rise up and surge forward
past rotting sealife
this emaciated surfer boy
racing to her radiance
cutting through condoms
and half sunk hazard signs.
She pulls shards from her roasted body
as the feeling of radiation burns my back.
A melted bottle of sun block
sits next to my pants.
As the wave is about to break
she rises up to meet me,
flashes me a skeletal smile.
I fall at the glimpse of her bones
brown foam washes me
to the shell grit shore.

Reminded me a little bit of Nevil Shute's 'On The Beach' (another British-Australian writer) - or the Stranglers' 'Nuclear Device' which also has an Oz connection. Weird or what?
some really powerful images and themes explored here as well -
and hat's off to whoever came up with the line
my girl is dying in half lifes,
Bonzer Jelta

This is so vivid and horrid, it can easily be a scene out of a nuclear disaster movie. An excellent collaboration, Jelta!

Agreed - I'm looking for a threesome (purely in the cause of poetry writing) - so if there's a member out there called Dawn.... how about Dawn-Hill-Skia (couldn't resist ?):D
H
Jelta Productions I salute you! I could almost see the dark orange sky thundering above me as I read!!
(I wouldn't have been able to resist either with that Hill :P)

A promising career in poetry, gone, with one terrible pun. The only saving grace is that one definition of "career" is "A headlong rush, usually downhill!" Saved by another awful joke!

Hold it, Mary, darling, don't get too complimentary - we don't want to get over-shadowed by some Aussie bird and a Brit. Oh, hold on............

That, my love, is our cardinal quality - modesty! Personally, I used to be big-headed, but I'm perfect now!!!!!!!

*cruises to award ceremony in a stretch mini*
On behalf of Jelta productions I would like to thank the Pope. Delta you look splendiforous in that fairy dress with the hobnail boots. I give thanks to our inspiration Maffyd.
I am pleased with your choice of chosen quote Hill as that line itself was a collaboration.
Jelta productions has much more up its sleeve. Or it may be empty. Jelta productions like to be uncertain on such points.
thanks all

Jerry's acceptance speech (with thanks to Reuters):
I stood on the stage at the Oscars
to say a few words off the cuff
But sadly I wore an old t-shirt
the sleeves on it weren’t long enough

Its with great sadness, that it falls on me to announce the early end of Jelta productions on account of my writing partner buggering off with Mary D. I would like to say it was sweet whilst it lasted but I cant say too much as I have sold my story to the News Of The World'
Daf, Daf, Collab now. We do not need these women with their femininity and womens problems and all. Man power * Does the newly invented ManPower hand gesture*

Bung me an idea by PM, the world is our oyster, although since my writing partner has bogged of with your erstwhile one, we are in the same boat, methinks. These women are so fickle!!!

This place is getting way too dark and sexual. As many people now I hate all things dark and/or sexual and I am out of here to Godsquad R us .com with my new Ode ' Pope how I love thee, let me sniff your cassock'

I don't want to worry you, but Delta is actually the Locum Pope, the other one's away somewhere, a health farm in Rochdale or something.
