A Slice of Cold Reality

Look at any morning paper
Heartache struts and postures on Life's stage
If you think life and its romance
Is the Child of Destiny and Chance
Pardon me if I don't buy into the charade

Life is scarred with the evil that men do
While Fate and the Devil take the blame
Yet mankind needs no evil help
They do a bang-up job themselves
The way we turn a blind eye is a shame

But there is a lot in Life to live for
So many, many things to do and see
I do not think it strange
To believe that things can change
Perhaps I need to let it start with me...

The idea behind this posting resonates in our current, crazy age. Just this morning I heard an anchorman comment about some of the recent events in which celebs are getting involved in political decisions. He said that lately the news is like a Saturday Night Live sketch.

But the point you make, Pen, is salient. It reminds me of a line by Thomas "The Seven Story Mountain" Merton:
"Reading the newspaper is a penance." And you are so right when you say that any change should begin with ourselves.

A lovely piece of work, that we should all think about. Thanks, Pen, thanks.
