Delicate orchid

I am no gardener,
I know nothing about plants,
Except that roses can be red,
Beautiful yet sometimes thorny,
And that daffodils are yellow.
But this I do know.
The rarest, most delicate flower
The sweetest, most beautiful,
Most desirable, even,
Is the Orchid.
It is fantastic to look at,
To have and to hold,
But it must be treated with care,
The utmost care.
For real beauty to flourish,
And the flower to burgeon
It must be treated gently,
With tender loving care,
Nurtured every single moment.
Some people talk to their flowers
To encourage growth, beauty.
Some gently stroke the petals,
Whisper ecstasies at its form.
They cherish.

I know nothing about flowers
Yet I have this delicate Orchid,
The love of my life.
Will you teach me
To care for it?

Or even your lover or spouse teach with her guild and gentle hand do all garden for u.

A delicate poem ending with a sweet request. So many poets have praised the rose but it is for the first time I've come across the orchid. Thanks for this tender poem.

Zoo, I know nothing about gardens or gardening - less than nothing, so your suggestion is accurate. Thanks for commenting!

Aliengirl, thanks for you approval. I chose the Orchid because it is so beautiful, perfect, yet so rare, so delicate and needing looking after. And because it has no thorns!

Your welcome is wonderful flower and poem.

Well, I hate to repeat myself - but if you are not angli in disguise I'll eat my walking boots.

A really sweet poem - written by someone who professes to know nothing about gardens or flowers and yet I bet you have a black belt in ikebana.

(I had to look that up!). No, genuinely, Hill, I know nothing except that the Orchid has certain qualities, and so do some people. I do know a tiny bit about people, though, especially those who matter a great deal to me.

And an intriguing poem...

one wonders if dafydd knows the etymology of the word 'orchid', in which case, the poem takes a rather mischievous turn...

I have to confess, B/V, I didn't, and if I had I might never have written this. However, innocence is sometimes a saving grace!!!!! Thanks for reading - and next time, I'll make sure......

If I'm honest, I would have put money on the fact you did and were keeping a straight face in your replies! Apologies. And talking of straight faces, that's what I can't keep reading this now. Again, apologies!

Sorry, I must be more naive than I imagined! I was trying to get across my feelings for one particular person, but trying to portray feelings of love, not lust.

Well, Dave, be it lust or be it love. It's a beautiful poem indeed. I've never really thought of Orchids that way, I guess. I am a rose girl. But I do hope your partner is very much the Orchid you expect her to be.

Oh, she is, Mary, she is, although she may not know it!

Do I detect a little name-calling aimed by Mr. Pot at my Mr. Kettle?

I'm not the one playing around with that frisky banana every time I post a reply!

Thanks for the offer, but with the cost of postage, it'd be cheaper to go to the market.....

Meaning no offense, guv, but shouldn't this poem have been posted in the Horticultural Forum?

Get yourself a copy of The Orchid Thief by Susan Orlean, and then we can talk.

No, mine is more precious and delicate, never mind more beautiful. Not that I am biased, mind...... Ever kissed an orchid? No? Oh dear.....

I could have sworn this was a love poem?

dafydd manton

It is, Mary, it's all these nasty Brits being vulgar! It is to compare the love of my life to a delicate flower that needs looking after to be at its best, and its most beautiful, so that it will be appreciated allthe more for its gorgeous qualities. Tsk Tsk, is all I can say! A tender moment, spoiled.......*sob*

A tender moment indeed - it looks as if the author speaks recurrently about his great, wonderful wife! :wink5:

Whoever it is, and I have no intention of committing myself, trust me, Mary, she is someone INCREDIBLY special to me. More, perhaps, than you will ever know!! Thanks for commenting, I love your feedback.

Delicate indeed. Your flower choice is exquisite, it shows how special and unique your lady is to you.

And I'll pretend I didn't see you stroking those petals for 30 hours straight.

dafydd manton
09-20-2010, 08:46 AM
Especially on toast! (Actually, I'm told its the same as our Marmite, which I like nice and thick....disgusting, I know, but a man must have some vices.)

Maryd.
09-20-2010, 09:42 AM
I have had marmite and marmite is too strong. But very pungent in taste like marmite

Maryd.
09-20-2010, 10:12 AM
Sure... So long as you stay for lunch.

dafydd manton
09-20-2010, 10:13 AM

dafydd manton
09-20-2010, 10:33 AM

Maryd.
09-20-2010, 10:34 AM

Maryd.

I rather sit by a fireplace and read a book.

dafydd manton
09-20-2010, 10:46 AM
I'd happily sit there by a proper fire, with a Dylan Thomas anthology. And that bottle of wine...

Maryd.
09-20-2010, 10:48 AM
Sure... Why not?

dafydd manton
09-20-2010, 10:49 AM
