Of Hedonism

I thought I would improve my mind
And gain a bit more knowledge,
The only way, at 52,
Was go to evening college.

Philology's the thing for me,
The spoken word's sweet song.
The Registrations Officer
Really got it wrong!

I'm studying philosophers
Like Artur Schopenhauer,
Friedrich Nietzsche, Wittgenstein,
And Popper by the hour.

I've even touched on Kierkegaard
And types of scepticism,
Bertrand Russell, G E Moore
Existentialism.

I've noticed that a plethora
Seen to come from Greece,
A problem that's been worrying me
For the past few weeks.

Socrates, Democritus
Heraclitus and Co
All of them have just one name
As far as we now know.

But is this just a family name,
Or have we got the bottle
To be a touch familiar
With dear old Aristotle.

Was it Fred Diogenes?
Was Epicurus Eric?
Was it Plato Robinson,
Was Leibniz really Derek?

They put me through the Mill, you know,
I hated it at once.
I Kant say that I learned anything....

I see your evening classes have inspired you dear Duck.
Hedonism has always been my desired philosophy of the little I know. Seems to me we have so little clue as to what the hell is going on that going for a good time makes every sense. Rarely achieved but sought with avengance between long periods of worry.

The sting is, I have no time whatsoever for philosphy or philosphers, who furnish questions and not answers, debate but not solutions. I merely nicked the names out of an encylopaedia, (or from Monty Python's Philosophers Song), and played about, in a bus-drivers crew room, 21 years ago.
