View Full Version : A Falling Leaf

When I was still tender green,
I used to wake up early in the fresh morning,
taking a peep at my sleepy siblings,
then watching the innocent rising sun frolicking in the misty haze,
and musing whether everyone
in this wonderful world is all like me,
eager to grow up on a tree.

Now I'm all golden yellow,
seeing my sisters and brothers floating away one after another,
to a place where even dreams may hesitate to grace.
I can't help but ask myself,
Is this the way nature takes its course?
Saying goodbye to it all
when one is most gorgeus, most beautiful
in the mellow season!

did you ever see that Monty Python sketch of a tree where one leaf can't take it anymore and screams as it plummets to the ground then it is followed by others death call till finally, all leaves are shed. Your poem reminded me a little of that but in a much sweeter way.

Thanks, Delta, for the comment and mention of Monty Python sketch of a tree.

I just googled it and found the scene was a bit similar to this scribbling of mine!

What a coincidence!
On second thought, I guess the falling of leaves or the passing away of people is universal!

your usual wonderfully perceptive imagery, Ang. The change in colour that sometimes we hardly notice, and as you say, at the leaves at their most beautiful. I love autumn, it's easily my favourite season
