Child Beauty Queen

Broken limbs,
a shattered doll,
finally cracked
through the shiny veneer,
nothing left
but hollow inside,
an echo where
the soul resides.

Twisted into unnatural
contortions,
primed and poised
painted poison
prodded and probed,
plastered smiles
sculpted dreams
prized for perfection,
devalued beneath
the imposed layers.

Eyes shine bright
small hearts race,
coming undone with
every fragile step,
a life of living on
shattered glass.

A cold sort of love
construed on
material foundations,
stripped away of a sense
of self-worth,
pranced around like
little whores
in the making.

Pushed before
predatory eyes
blood stains on the floor,
dreams never realized
leaving behind only
a grotesque facade
of life.

Oh, I can picture the grotesque little kids, over-made-up, old before their time, behaving like adults instead of being allowed to grow up properly. And not even knowing why. Thanks for a very deep bit of work.

I love this poem because every word is true, my sanked everytime I heard of pageants for children special under 10, the girls look like barbie dolls.

The parents should shame of themself, What are they teach their children?
Only thing matter is win, be tan, looklike whore?

Yes! I am glad someone else sees the grotesqueness of it!

Oh I'd hate that,
I see kids, as young as six begging there mother to buy them make up, and usually they comply!
I never used to want make up as a child,
I always used to beg for sweeties or a slingshot I could use to sling berries at my friends (Berry fights, long story :P)
But in all seriousness, todays generation are letting children grow up too fast, and with that, comes a lost childhood.

Love the poem. Great work.

But the reason why Children are growing up so fast, is that they are being mothered by Children!

There is a horribly misguided trade in child flesh perpetuated by beauty pageants, and you paint a very vivid picture of it here.

The line

a life of living on
shattered glass.

sums it up superbly.
