Has anybody read this?

I'm thinking of picking up a copy today.

Like? Dislike?

Thoughts would be appreciated, thanks.

on unabridged CDs and they are not literature, but they are highly entertaining. Definitely several steps above Dan Brown. I've seen the first movie, and it is also entertaining - no boring parts. They have made all three movies in Swedish with English subtitles. The girl who plays Lizbeth, the heroine, is very good. Since these are well narrated on CD, I would suggest listening to them instead of reading. After all, they are not classics.

Read The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo and did enjoy.
I just loved Lisbeth.

I was not interested in reading the two that followed.

Ive read and loved all three in the trilogy!
The first book can take a while to get into, but it is worth it.

They are definitely not literature, but very well narrated and Lisbeth Salander is a truly unique heroine. I found the books to lack focus in parts (except for the third) and the descriptions of various types of sex got boring after a while. But they are real fast reads.

I've read them all and found them gripping. But he could have done with a good editor. Repetitive details about what kind of sandwiches or what strength coffee added nothing to the narrative flow.
Certainly modified my view of Sweden. I thought it was a vanilla sort of country.

In that case, Seasider, you should move on to Henning Mankell's Kurt Wallander stories - very dark. Well written, too, tight narrative, believable characters, haunting sense of place. (Forget Kenneth Branagh's attempts at representing the character btw - he failed utterly to grasp the essentials of the man; the Swedish films are much nearer the essence of the stories. They are being repeated on BBC4 atm - but the books are much better.)

I've read and enjoyed all three as well, and as mentioned above, the first is a little difficult to get into and find your feet. But well worth it.

Loved the first one, the second one was also very enjoyable, haven't read the third yet.

Nearly finished with the first. I think it's popular because it sort of fits that 'locked room mystery' type format.

Books similar to it always seem to be gain quite a lot of attention and appraisal

He had a long-term live-in, but they were never married. Stieg Larsson died intestate - no will. So these three books belong to the father and brother. They have purportedly offered the girlfriend 2 million dollars to settle, and provide them with an unfinished fourth novel which she has. She has turned this down. See stieglarsson.com for other details.
