View Full Version : A chickens morning

the car is in a sorry state
beaten to the turbulent rhythm
of winter
it has developed square wheel syndrome
Hens don't mind though
the car is nothing more
than an eyesore view from the kitchen window
but they use it as a roost each night
the rusting battered roof has been reshaped
by a mountain of chicken ****e
Each morning I flick on a light
It streams through the window
onto the back of a hens lens
A make believe sun spurs them to action
They leap down from their sanctuary
their chicken chins scrape along the ground
in a bid to get to the back door first
and catch the food scraps
they have eyed on the window sill
the day before

I love the phrase 'square wheel syndrome' - and how come chickens are so hilarious to watch? :-)

What a charming beginning of this piece!
It's really down-home as Daffy put it!
It makes me nostalgic about the country life when I was a boy!
I really love this piece!

drew me the full picture of your delapidated car and needy hens. I do believe, Delta, your yard may be ramshackle ;)

The problem is, Jerry, she'll be adept at wringing necks........! And if anybody comes up with the line "A Poultry Little Poem", I shall scream.

you have a way to make a scene come alive. I can see the chickens, I can hear them, I can even hear the cat.

No, it was me being side-kick, or whatever it was Jerry said. I can see in to the future, and that future is that if I don't run pretty smartish, I'm going to get kicked. (Tee He!)

'So much depends upon...'
Brilliantly evoked, Delta; one of your better pieces I thought, this one. I too loved this image particularly:
the car is in a sorry state
beaten to the turbulent rhythm
of winter
