Hi
I'm afraid it's not much to go on (I read the book about25 years ago) but here goes :
- I think it was written in the last half of the 19th or first half of the 20th century
- The author was male and Nothern European, maybe French or German (or Danish ?!)
- The plot is quite simple - a guy loses his job, runs out of money, becomes homeless and overcomes his distress when he realises that he now has the most complete freedom. (I think) the book ends with him rolling on the ground in fits of laughter - but this may be wishful thinking and a bad memory
that's about as much as I can remember I'm afraid - if anyone's got any ideas what it could be ....
thanks !
