Someone's give us metrication,
Someone's nicked our Mile!
We had the thing six 'undred years.
It is a deed most vile.
Someone's been and took our Yard,
And called the thing a Metre.
They took away our British Pint
And give us back a Litre.
What become of Rod and Perch,
Of Furling, Pole and Chain?
Some rotten European swine
Has hidden 'em again.
They've had away our Pound and Ounce,
The Stone, the Dram and all,
And give us 'orrid little grams.
Of all the flamin' gaul!

A Miss is as good as 1.609 Kilometres!
Interesting and intriquing title!
A miss is as good as a mile or a girl?

I blame Napoleon :D
Great little verse. Can one have imperial metre? I wonder...

Ah, Ang, this is how stupid it gets. All of our roadsigns are in Miles Per Hour or yards, yet we buy petrol in litres. Despite that we calculate fuel consumtion as miles per gallon. Work that out.

I like it! we're totally metric here (except for baby weights for some odd reason) and of course the quarter pounder from McChucks

I used to hate that, driving in Germany - instead of somewhere being only 100 miles, it was 160 KM. Feels much worse. Worst was going rom the Dutch border to Berlin 400 miles, which is had enough, but 640 KM could drive you mad.

you're tempting me now about the down and up side of inches vs centimetres!

Ah, easy. Height in centimetres, width in inches.

Since we too switched here in Canada, I live .5 of my life as if in a foreign country. Very funny poem, God bless you (or should that be Yahweh, or Allah, or ?).

What a funny poem! I too hate this switching between miles and kilometers but it is the other way round for me. I like to use kilometers and kilograms. Miles, yards, and inches still confuse me sometimes, not to mention pint and gallons. Thank God I was born after they have already switched, otherwise Maths class would have been a hell.
Well, despite our different views I really enjoyed this poem. Thanks Daffyd!

Even if our grand old imperialism one day completely slips, I am sure we will still be drinking beer in pints. As long as there are any pubs remaining of course.
cheers Daf
well put mate.

Over here we drink them from bottles, glasses or steins.

Doesn't matter what you drink it from, really, it still tastes just as good! I drink beer from a bottle, but wine or brandy from a glass. When I get to the stage where I'm drinking brandy from the bottle (or a stein) you have my permission to intervene.
