little willy wagtail
in your proud suit
hopping on the ground
whistling tiny toots
chasing away the cat
shining in the sun
stealing little twigs
to prepare for your young
little willy wagtail
your chest is very proud
you take on the world
and attack it
very loud

Loved it! We need more stuff that reads as if it were written for kids. Thanks

lol. thank you. I don't know if you have willy wagtails where you are but they look like they're wearing a tuxedo. In spring, they try to chase anything and anyone away. such bravado from these little hopping birds!

Never heard of them but when you said "suit" I immediately think of penguins!
Your little poem makes them sound so cute but my cat wouldn't appreciate it as much :D sorry!

Oh I wish it were already spring! I would be "hopping on the ground / whistling tiny toots".
Thanks for this sample of it!

Wagtails - loads of them hopping about here (especially close to the rivers). Its aready heading towards autumn this side of the big E so thanks for sending us a little beam of spring.

I will always remember the vision of watching pied wagtails playing on cars. In the days when the Morris Minor was a common car on the street, I saw a small group of these birds sliding down the bonnet onto the road, then flying up onto the bonnet again to repeat the slide. I saw a pair of Grey wagtails raise two broods of chicks behind a trench trap layout at the local shooting ground. They completely ignored the daily barrage of teams of 6 shooters discharging their weapons over the nest. Both broods were entirely successful. I have some photos somewhere and I'll dig them out.
Best, H

Sorry, Delta, seem to have missed this one! One of my favourite birds, too. Along with blue-tits (and no cheap jokes please).
