Just a quiet evening out.
Oh, aye, I like the odd glass.
Thanks, pint of Bitter, please.
Well, I didn't....
Sorry?
Yes, thanks, Bitter, please.
It was a terrible game....
Care for a pint, my round.
Nice drop of stuff this,
Keeps it well, this landlord
Pipes must be lovely and clean.
What.....?
Yea, pint of Bitter, plea...
Well just a little one, then.
Always liked a drop of Scoth...er..Scotch.
Ah, Gelnemorangie...I mean Bells.
Yeah, definitely, Bells. Excellent.
Whisky chasers, good idea
Saves a trip to the bar, make it a doble...double.
Famous Grouse, then, Yeah, s'all righ'.
Don' mind if I do.... Bitter... why not?,
Bint of Pitter...did you hear that?
Bint..Hahahahahahaha...Wha?
Yeah, one for the roa....No.
No, I'm not drivin'.
Lost me licence,
Flamin' coppers, ought to be out catching crim'nals.
Nothing better to....Wha'?
Save a trip to th' bar,
Make it a triple - treble, then. Three.
An' a pint?
Ok, tha's brallinat...er..brillianit.....good.
No, not any more,
No, hardly touch the stuff,
Since she left.
A Pint, you say?
Me? Yes.
Bitter.

Brilliant job of portraying the speaker and, to a somewhat lesser extent, his companion in tibbling - er, tippling.

A drop of the hard stuff here daf, something I see all too often in these parts (but thankfully I'd be on my back after a couple of pints!)

Truth to tell, I very very rarely go in to pubs, and then only for a meal, (although I do like a glass or something at home), but - and I can only apologise, Prince, - I had a lot of fun with this one. Skol!
Thanks for imbibing!

It never occurred to me to question the frequency of your visits but, rather, the duration of each one.

Absholutley. Thanks Jerry - that's a pint you owe me! Not for any particular reason, you understand, I just think it's time you bought a beer.

It's another one of those that builds to an effective last line (even if it's only one word in this case), love this stuff!

I get that dreadful feeling that he'd finished off the Glenmorangie, (one of my favourite whiskies), and couldn't pronounce it anyway, so took to the Bells - (whic is probably my least favourite whisky. TCP with attitude.) :brow:

is that welsh for scotch?
dafydd manton
08-31-2010, 07:23 PM
No, it's Scottish for Scotch, but a ludicrously expensive one - about $50 Oz a bottle!

08-31-2010, 07:33 PM
oh so that means the scots don't drink it then?

No, not unless the English buy them one! it's a beautiful single malt whisky, though! Not the best in the world ( in my opinion), which is called The Laphroaig. Now that is epic!

sounds like some creature which has been long extinct fermenting in scotch mist!

Pronounced Laff Royg. Tastes beautifully peaty. It also makes you laugh a lot and fall over, but it's a very expensive way of doing so.

Great stuff, dafydd, great clipped dialogue, brilliantly captured.
And very contemporary too - Simon Armitage and the Don Paterson of 'Nil Nil' spring to mind.

A lifetime in boozers, BV. Years of selfless training - although not autobiographical in any way.

Chapeau! our local polyglot! This one is truly brilliant - words twirling to the rhythm of orders. Glenmorangie, you say? Come over, I have some in my bar and sip at it occasionally (like for a great occasion).
Anyhow, you achieved something wonderful here. Bravo Daf.

It may well be some dreadful brew made of crocodiles and wallaby spleen - you know what these Aussies are. Rumour has it that Delta drinks Castemaine XXXX with Dingoes on a Stick! With a paper umbrella, of course. Culture is not dead.

dafydd, again, you had me... reading till the end and thouroughly enjoying. Reminds me of someone, not so long ago... but I was rather a lonesome home drinker, not so much into bars. Anyway, I lift my glass – here's to you, mate!
Ah how i have missed work such as this ;)
Pint of Lager for me, not much for whisky or Bitter ;)
