hypnotized by the dryer
her clothes tumble out
they land in a tangled mess
at her feet
She sorts through
the static bundle
where each item
is camouflaged against
the next
evading her matching
she grimaces
over the crackly heap
even her useless laundry
cannot be united
into pairs
of anything

An allegory for a love-match, methinks!

yes I think it might be. do you write something and find afterwards there is a subliminal meaning here which you did not intend?

....all the time

But you always have a clever way of weaving magic into the mundane - and this is no exception. I'll think of you next time I'm looking for that elusive missing sock!

I'm glad Hill that I am not the only odd sock here then :-)

Oh yes! That is part of the fun of writing! At times, when I was still writing fiction, I'd put something down and then look at it and think: 'I didn't know I knew that!' But the something subliminal happens more often, for me, in writing poems.

I loved the opening lines of this and the concept of the laundry as a metaphor for life or relationships.

As a man I have no idea what this dryer thing you talk of is, but very much enjoyed your verse

I will clean it only if you always leave the seat up for me :P
