View Full Version : Why don't you fly to a greener mountain?

A crane stands alone,
thin as a pole,
one foot in a small river,
motionless
with her head drawn back on to her plumage.

The rain keeps drizzling on her white dress.

She seems to be waiting there for a morning,
but apparently in vain;
her kids at home must have gone hungry for days!

I hear my heart crying out to her,
My poor friend,
there is no fish in a polluted river!
Why don’t you fly to a greener mountain?

But can she?
Can I?

what a sympathetic heart you have and emphasised all the more by the crane's plight

When I read the 'rain drizzles on her white dress' she was no longer impersonal, she became important. I felt the beat within me when I read the last line. More than politics, truth, revelation magnified so well that others can glimpse into what they may or may not know.

In my mind this is art.

Your poetry never fails to move me. What have done to our world?

Thanks, Delta, for the kind words.
Is it the crane's plight or ours when the earth is polluted here and there!
There is no more greener place for us to live in!

Thanks, Daffy, for the feedback!
What have we done to our mother nature?
Now I believe in art rather than science!

A great job of placing your empathy with the crane ahead of your concern for yourself - and us.

An unforgettable image, and the line

The rain keeps drizzling on her white dress.

makes this a work of beauty.

This is one of the few poems I have come across of late. This mirrors exactly the way we live in the present world. We have on our own accord polluted the world environmentally in point of fact and if we want to take refuge in nature, in the lap of mother nature we have no place there, not even the mountains we put our eyes on are polluted; the rivers or the seas or the air all are contaminated.

There is no place to go as a sanctuary for us.

Very insight-fully written

Life will be overwhelmed with woes and sorrows
if there are no flowers.
