Perth has only four train lines, none of which span further than 50km from the city!

Ah, I see. Our high-speed trains need about 35 miles just to wound up to a decent lick, before something breaks and it shudders to a halt in a cloud of smoke. I was wrongly thinking distance.

distance like time is relative. despite the size of WA, you can't train up and down the countryside. the miners work 2 weeks up north then fly home for a week. they're called FiFo's (fly in, fly outs)
