A few months ago I read Frankenstein.
This book surprised me in many ways. First of all, people tend to call the monster -Frankenstein , but it's actually the name of the creator. So to avoid any confusion I will refer to the monster as Franken-beast.
Second of all , Hollywood almost always portrayed Franken-beast as a pathetic mindless and clumsy monster. But in the original material , the monster has a swiftness, strength and endurance that would make even a Predalien jealous. But that is surpassed only by it's extraordinary intelligence, eloquence and sensibility.
Throughout the book I couldn't stop thinking that the main issue is racial discrimination.
Frankenstein on the other hand , made the book almost unbearable to read. He is such an emo and annoying character. Since the creation of Franken-beast , he kept *****in' and moanin' about how doomed his life is and what wretched demon he created. At times I even suspected him of autism. He rejected Franken-beast from the first moment it's eyes opened. Frankenstein simply left the lab, left town, and pretended nothing ever happened. Poor Franken-beast was left to wander alone, he had to learn how to live and speak by itself (and did a marvelous job) . But Franken-beast kept coming face to face with prejudge, ended up sorrowful, enraged and revengeful and started killing Frankenstein's relatives one by one.
For all this Frankenstein had no one to blame but himself. The monster was his responsibility, it possessed an intelligent and peaceful nature, and was perfectly able of being educated by it's creator. The monster even asked Frankenstein to create a mate for it, to live with it in complete solitude in the heart of mountains, but nooo nooo the scientist refused thinking that they will unleash hell, that they would be destructive (see what I mean!?, this is retardation) . The main reason was that Frankenstein believed they would mate... oh gosh , if he was able to create a complete and functioning human from dead limbs and organs of others, would it be harder to make a female counterpart without a reproductive system?!
So all in all, I loved the book.
1) I believe victims were caused only by Frankentein's narrow-mindness and lack of responsibility. Do you agree with me?
2) Have you read any other books that were exquisitely written , but contained insufferable characters witch turned your reading into a pleasurable torment?
