I remember
when you were young
with matted fluffy
puppy faced slippers
that made you list
you still stumbled around
awkward, yet with no fear
even when your feet
got tangled
in your too long
green dressing gown
you would land any which way
your mouth in an 'o'
your eyes wide
sapphire blue in their wonder
of the laws of gravity
when you could barely
form the word 'Mum'
your spirit sparkled like
the brightest of diamonds,
sun, stars
my heart beat strong
in your enormous light
your kissable chubby cheeks
stained with child glee
as I squeezed you close
you gurgled the laughter
of all of God's children

A beautiful study in the love of a child ( through a parents eyes?)
Oh so fleeting, but long remembered in your heart and your mind's eye.
Reminded me of my daughters. lovely memories.

What a sparkling language and verse, so vivid an imagery, sharp and - goood. All said in a breath: of love.
(if I may, I'd only lose L2, or say "when you were little" instead of "young", for 1/we understand she was from the brilliant description you offer us, 2/she's still young, I'm sure!)
A wonderful poem, kudos, Delta.

lol. I'm really laughing inside. she is beautiful no matter what! 18 and a late bloomer so I sorta feel I'm dealing with a recalcitrant 15 yo

Don't worry, Girls of Oz. My eldest daughter, now 33 (and yes, I do feel old) went all Goth, got married in black, black finger nails, the lot. She even wanted a black wedding cake, which her Mother refused. However, she she's apparently turned out quite normal - well, except for the profusion of tattoes, that is. Oh well!

Great poem, and great commentary guys and gals.
Daf, you gave me a laugh - me picturing 'her mother' now apparently turning out quite normal, apart from the tattoos :-)

I loved the whole of this loving poem and, of course, those splendid last two lines.

Don't laugh too soon. Mother, as well as being a great exponent of Broomstick Aviation, has a huge great rose tattoed on her upper arm (where there is ample space), but it a rose that no horticuluralist would recognise. Could be a Dahlia, I suppose...............:smile5::rolleyes:
