Does anybody own a copy of Maurier's The Flight of the Falcon and can tell me what the last few sentences of the book are? I have a copy but it seems to have a printing error were the book starts again from the beginning, however I'm not sure whether it ends and then starts again or if some of the story is missing because of it.

Any help appreciated.

The following are the final sentences on page 318; hope it helps. I, also, hope it is accurate since your printing seems is not, this one might not be either.

“He enrolled in a Russian-language correspondence course, studied and waited.

Overtures were made to the Reagan Administration, but they were ignored.

An emissary representing Boyce went to the Soviet Consulate in San Francisco and made a formal proposal that the Soviet Union take the initiative in arranging an exchange.

The Soviet government never replied to this appeal from Christopher John Boyce.”

Thank you for your reply but I think you've quoted the wrong book. That seems to be from a book of the same title but by a Robert Lindsey. I appreciate your help though.

Hi Veho,

Just for the fun of the challenge, I guess, I researched this a little bit. Here is a link to a review of the book, which is pretty detailed--it might in fact include the last few lines of the book. Anyhow, the second paragraph of the review has some spoilers MAYBE, and you would definitely risk "spoilers" by reading through towards the end of the review, BUT I CAN SAY that your book does indeed have a printing error. The story doesn't go back to the beginning and start over or anything gimmicky.

If you want spoilers about how the story ends, though, you can get a summary of the two endings for the story (the REAL ending in the English version of the book, as well as an alternate ending for the American serialization in Good Housekeeping magazine) by searching the linked webpage for the word "rewrite".

Thanks billl, that was very helpful. I've worked out (using that review) that my copy is missing about 50 pages from the end. Oh well, not to worry. Thanks again :)
