The next time you lay yourself down to rest
Take stock of yourself and appreciate
All you have to smell, touch, see and taste.
Lying on your back arms across your chest,
Take a very deep breath.
In thru your nose deeply filling your chest
And then slowly exhale through your mouth,
Your lips parting ever so slightly;
Then do it again feeling every muscle,
Tasting every drop of living.
Your eyes will flutter as rest slips in
And your heart rate drop in peace
It was during this time you slipped off;
Faded into a coma.
Left alone in your bed,
Pillows prop up your head,
The linens fresh and soft,
She appears hovering above you,
The lady in white.
She smiles and touches your forehead
And then your cheek.
You smile back, or so you think.
Feeling the heat of the season
She reaches up to the pull chain
And sets the fan whirling higher.
She moistens a swab
And clears the crust from your nose,
Then without a word she dips
Her fingers into the ice water and moistens your lips…
Ahhh so fresh,
So savory is the cool water
And her touch so sensuous.
Once again to smile;
As only you know as nothing shows;
I have conquered the perfect bluff as life drifts by.
She says soothing words of my waking soon
And her voice drones on and my mind nodding floats on.
Now she ruffles your sheets and talks of fall
And the changing of the leaves,
The crisp cool air
And the smell of burning leaves.
She brushes your hair
And her smell entices,
You feel it inside yet there it remains.
She gently baths your skin
In more then just water
But in kindness and love.
She piles the coverlet up around your chin
And sings a lullaby.
Her touch is so warm, inviting and loving;
She has no idea what she does for you
And how you feel inside.
Massaging your arms,
Her thigh presses against your side
As she sits on your quiet bed.
You live to be here when she visits
Even though you are as good as dead.
She stands and bundles up in cloak and scarf
Whispering of the snow and winds.
The sun is bright and once again
She stands with you.
Daffodils in her hand
The fragrances are strong of her…
Her sweet, sweet quenching scent.
Her smile is so bright
And her cheeks today have a rosy glow.
You smile even thou it does not show.
How you want so badly to come alive
And thank her for always being by your side.
She talks with you even thou you say nah a word.
She listens and sometimes you actually think she heard
You reaching, trying to break thru this web of sleep.
This goes on for countless seasons,
Much like the rise and fall of your chest.
You would not continue if not for her
And her caring sweetness.
Today something odd occurred.
She moistened your lips in her gentle way
And then she leaned over and kissed you.
Your groins stirred, your heart raced
And your body became hot with a flush of arousal.
For a brief moment you were alive.
Then all things faded and once again
You return to your catacomb of nothingness….
Where dreams are real and reality is a dream.
To wait for the next season
And hope your Angel still arrives.
