is A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court To be rendered senseless by a blow on the head in New England and wake up in the
6th century is quite a feat. One of my favorite Twain novels.

The examples mentioned are all worthy ones, but allow me to post a brief caveat to fiction writers with aspirations of becoming published authors. First readers and editorial assistants charged with the "slush pile" have seen so many short stories with the protagonist "waking up" in the morning, that they consider that device a cliché. Thus, a quick rejection.

(Just so you'll know.)

I have yet to read the book 'And Then You Die' by Michael Dibdin, it opens up with:

"Aurelio Zen was dead to the world. Under the next umbrella, a few desirable metres closer to the sea, Massimo Ruelli was just dead."
