You said you could fly
even trapped in a garage
like some caged bear
you would rise up
and break through
any obstacle
in your path
your wingspan
has a width
which no man
can compete
not even a superhero
in blue stockings
and red boots
would make a difference
to your inherent
sense of freedom
I thought you could fly
that you would grasp
the branch on which you sat
and find it a launchpad
to sky filled greatness
where you would soar
above nature's floor
but grass cushions your
fall as you topple
helplessly from your fern
on your back you twist
writhe
locking your wings around you
till i come to your rescue
and wrap you tight
in a blanket of safety
till you spread your wings again
no matter how many times
you plummet
I hope you will fly

These birds they lie.
I enjoy all you write Delta. I honestly just do. I didnt choose to, it was thrust upon me from below. The equator.

I love this one D40, but it made me think of a bat rather than a bird. Then, I was at a function the other day where a bat was flying around the dining room, so maybe I'm just batty. It did take me a couple of readings to get the sense of it though. I feel it would benifit from a little punctuation to clue the reader in.

Best, H

I kind of like it without the punctuations. Short, cut off lines. Gives me the feel of that someone trying to fly and abruptly falling, then trying again.

that is a very good point. I never saw that. it is nice to have a reader reveal that which I did not see!
