Crime of Passion

Alone in the dark questioning fate
bars of the mind reflect a prisoner's cell
even from himself a man cannot hide
bars of the mind reflect a prisoner's cell
yet there are shadows on every side
guilt and innocence one and the same
alone in the dark questioning fate.

Torn between two spheres of love and hate
while retreating into his own shame
even from himself a man cannot hide
bars of the mind reflect a prisoner's cell
watching the clock tick by for the last ride
guilt and innocence one and the same
alone in the dark questioning fate.

Balanced on the edge of an instable state
alone in the dark questioning fate
who so sinless they have the right to lay blame
guilt and innocence one and the same
even from himself a man cannot hide
these unnatural laws he is forced to abide
bars of the mind reflect a prisoner's cell
bars of the mind reflect a prisoner's cell.

By the time the truth is realized it's too late
as one is reduced to no more than their name
alone in the dark questioning fate
even from himself a man cannot hide
bars of the mind reflect a prisoner's cell
alone in the dark questioning fate.

Ah, Dark, this is the best poem I've seen posted at Lit-net in the longest time!

It's truly amazing as a work of art.

Thank you very much for the high compliant. I was a bit worried people might find the repletion of this one a bit awkward, but I was rather happy with how it came out, so I am most grateful to you.
