I have styled my hair
pressed my pants
while the kettle boiled
I coined a verse
I glossed my lips
and drowned in musk scent
to hide the hairspray smell
then I laughed at the delight
of your warm babble
while I sipped milky tea
and now dear friends
I must leave for work

Knowing that it actually is about time for you to leave, about 8:30 (ish) makes it all the more meaning. Rather fun, that! I don't know how you do it!

who would have thought so much pant pressing, lip glossing, laughing and milky tea sipping was going on behind the scenes. Oh the stories untold on the other side of these screens! Have a good day Delta, If you see Daffy, tell him he owes me £1.27

Daffy, do the right thing and pay up! (that includes your taxes too by the way)

Taxes? Taxes? I don't earn enough to pay taxes! I'll send Jerry a cheque - in Yen. By the time that's been converted, put in to Kwasha, then Sterling, it'll be worth about the price of a packet of gum!

By the way, loved that phrase "warm babble". Very accurate!

How tidy a poem this is, with such a surprise ending! Elegant wit. Thanks.

I just loved this the first time I read it. Can't thank you enough for posting it. It's a very, very thought-provoking work. Superb, cool, and sensational. I really liked it. I could totally relate--you captured the idea of it beautifully. Superb. No joke, absolutely fabulous. Very, very poignant. Thanks!

Nice one D40, (You know I must be really wicked because I keep wanting to put a W in front of the D when I type your abbreviated handle. :D )

Stop it - you'll go blind!! And anyway, look carefully, references to using an iron, lip gloss, making milky tea......D40 is a ..........*Gasp* Female!!! You can't say things like that in front of a lady - least of all one who has just changed to such a smart avatar. Remember you are an English Gentleman. Sorry, amend that, remember you are English.

(Look, I know we reckon that they're all called Sheila and wear hats with corks and drink Foster's all day long, but it might not be true.)

mate, sheila is a pommy name and only foreigners with preconceived notions of Oz drink Fosters - now leave me alone while I beat up a kangaroo for dinner...

*Bows in profuse aplogy for misconception. Scrapes floor with bowler hat, re-adjusts bow tie, sticks furled umbrella under right arm, rolled up copy of The Times under the other, swigs 83rd cup of tea (Earl Grey, naturally), leaves for shift at the coal-face down No. 2 Shaft. Thinks - did I remember to pack my roast beef and Yorkshire Pudding sandwiches?*

It's the thought of that 28 lb hammer.....the hot steel..... the tanks slowly taking shape.... caterpillar tracks being manhandled - sorry, womanhandled - in to place..... the roar of big diesel engine. Sorry, I'm going for a lie-down now!
