memory

little her
sits on the gate
waiting
swinging bony legs
stretching her socks
as far as they will go
without falling back
picking leaves from the hedge
blowing ladybirds home
studying the veiny patterns
of nature
waiting
for strong hands to lift her
to feel the sanctuary
of familial love
as she holds on tight to him
waiting
for the exciting thrill
when she sits on his moped
smiling as he wheels it
down the garden path
to the coal shed
laughing
waiting
